The Chicago Area Real Time Society was formed in 1971 as a [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DECUS|DECUS]] LUG.  As of 2025, CARTS is still listed on the [[https://connect-community.org/connect-chapters|Connect]] chapters page, although without leadership.
