McHenry County Computer Club

History

The following was captured from the club website on 10/16/2025:

The McHenry County Computer Club started out as a Commodore computer club in 1982. The first meeting was held in the Century Business Systems office on Route 14 in Crystal Lake, just a few doors from Sherman Plumbing. Ten people showed up. The meeting went so well, they decided to hold more meetings, and the club was born. The first president was elected that night, and plans for the club's charter and by-laws were discussed. Some of the original members are still active in the club today

Starting out with Commodore computers and then moving on to PC compatible computers, our club has grown more every year; the bigger it gets, the better it becomes. The club's goals in 1982 were to gain the knowledge of how to operate our computers, to learn what software is available and what to do when the machines break down or present difficulties. Those are still the goals of our club.
