The Chicago Classic Computing Wiki

This is an old revision of the document!

Welcome to our new project! Yet another Wiki on the Internet!

The CCC Wiki will deal primarily with either classic/vintage/old computers with some relation to Chicago/the Midwest or original work performed by members of the greater ChiClassicComp / VCFMW milieu. Also some telephony, general electronics and things we wanted to write down and not forget.

What the CCC Wiki is:

  • A place for original research
  • A page for your project notes
  • A repository of knowledge that is no longer found online or hard to find and is at risk of going away

What the CCC Wiki is not:

  • A competitor to Wikipedia or any of the other fine Wikis out there
  • A place to duplicate knowledge already online unless you are consolidating information relevant to a project or preserving data that may be at risk
  • An image gallery
  • A blog

At this time, you must be invited to have an account to edit the Wiki. This may change later on, once we're comfortable running this thing.

We're debating organizing pages using Dokuwiki namespaces or tags (using the Tag plugin). We're leaning toward tags because it makes for clearer URLs, but it also means page authors must remember to include tags on their pages!

We can create indexes of both tags and namespaces (using the nspages plugin), which will make navigation much easier. The built-in Sitemap may get overwhelmed by all the root pages eventually, so namespaces will still be used for Wiki Users and User Projects.

A tips and tricks page for editing the Wiki is here.
